MASTER DIRECTOR JEAN BARFORD ANNOUNCES HER RETIREMENT Forty years after the chartering of Gem City Chorus in Dayton, OH in 1970, and after winning 5 Gold Medals and numerous other International Medals at international contests from 1974 to 2009, master director Jean Barford announced that she will retire as director of Gem City Chorus. Her last performance with the chorus will be July 2010. She will continue to coach, judge and teach Sweet Adelines everywhere and will be supportive of whatever Gem City decides to do next. The Gem City Chorus sincerely wishes Jean much success in her retirement although she will be GREATLY missed! Gem City will soon conduct a director search for someone with the musicial skills, personality and ability to motivate the members of Gem City for the next forty years! If you are interested in applying for this exciting director opportunity, please fill out a Director application. In April, Gem City Chorus will be 40. Many songs have been sung, many lasting friendships have been formed, and many memories have been shared during those 40 years. To celebrate, all former and current members will be invited to a night of celebration July 24, 2010—we hope that you can join us!!
REAL Women... REAL Harmony... REAL Fun!!! Gem City Chorus is again planning to hold our free vocal lessons educational program and membership drive in fall, 2010. This was a great opportunity to learn about the barbershop art form, enjoy free voice lessons, and perform with the acclaimed Gem City Chorus at their annual show in December.
