Jean Barford—Master Director

JEAN BARFORD earned the title of respected title of Master while directing the Gem City Chorus. A dynamic and She coaches both men's and women's choruses and quartets, is a certified judge in the Sound category and faculty specialist. She was awarded the Sweet Adeline lifetime achievement award in 2004.

Jean is an accomplished quartet singer and an International Queen of Harmony with the Sounds of Music quartet

Music resonates throughout Jean's family. Daughter Melissa is also a member of the Gem City Chorus. Jean's husband, Brian, is an assistant director of the Southern Gateway Chorus and a certified BHS singing judge. The family shares a genuine love of barbershop harmony (although daughter Jennifer is quite involved with her horses).

After 40 years Jean announced her retirement as director of the Gem City Chorus effective July, 2010. Although she will be greatly missed by the chorus she will continue to work with barbershoppers everywhere as a teacher, coach and judge.
